Thoughts:
This is a cute, quick read about a group of four friends who decided to make a video game after realizing they all shared a similar taste in the kinds of games they play. It goes into how the group met, what brought them together, and what inspired them to try creating a game in the first place. Interspersed throughout are tidbits about the climate of the Australian video game development scene at the time as well as a history of the scene that led up to their involvement.
Although I enjoy video games (including this game of the same title) and had a good time reading the book, it gets a bit repetitive and feels rather disjointed. The author will talk about a road trip the friends took, then suddenly go into a history lesson of Australian game development, then go into events that take place after the road trip, and circle back around to the road trip itself. This wouldn't be an issue for me if there were better transitions, but it feels very sudden with every change in direction. Also, even as short as the book is, it really could have been shorter. It feels like a series of blog posts that were combined into a book without editing for redundancy. It's not a bad book by any means, but is not one I found particularly having worth read.
This was a straight middle-of-the-road read for me. A 5 out of 10.
